Michael Hemmer lives within a few miles of the Pacific Ocean in Oregon in a small Coastal Range rural community. The isolation provides Michael with the right atmosphere for cranking up the forge and operating the ten ton drop hammer. Michael's hand-forged knives are made of the high carbon steel of recycled saw blades, and occasionally he uses steel cable for really unique blades. Damascus blades are difficult and costly to make, but Michael had had several here at the Wood Gallery. Professional and amateur chefs alike appreciate Michael's knives. His styles include small (2") utility/paring knives, 6-8" cleavers and filet knives which may range from 6" to 14". All blades are stamped with Michael's initials and hold an edge for an extremely long time. Blades may be polished or rough ground. Each handle is fitted to specific knives and are made from selected hardwoods.
